Course THREE

Course THREE builds on Course TWO. Before joining, you should be able to tie a retraced figure-eight knot, belay safely using an ATC or tube-style device, clip quickdraws while lead climbing, and know the basic climbing commands. Completion of Courses ONE and TWO is not required, but is recommended.

The course runs once a week on the same day and at the same time, or twice a week on pre-arranged dates.

This course introduces the essential skills needed for your first outdoor rock climbing experience – all taught in the safe environment of the climbing centre. You will learn:

• the principles of safe movement on rock, the use of climbing equipment, essential mountaineering knots, and protection points;
• how to organise and manage a belay station, re-tie at the anchor, and lower a climber safely;
• how to abseil from a belay station using a Prusik backup and other abseiling techniques; and
• how to belay a second climber from the belay station.

The price includes instruction, the use of ropes, belay equipment, and quickdraws for clipping practice.

The price does not include a harness, climbing shoes or admission to the Climbing Centre.

As a course participant, you can purchase a 5-entry pass at reception upon request.

The course is suitable for adults and young people aged 15 and over when accompanied by an adult.

We reserve the right to cancel the course if the minimum number of participants is not reached. Missed lessons cannot be rescheduled, replaced or refunded. The course is organised by the HO SmíchOFF, z.s. association at the SmíchOFF Climbing Centre.
