Visitor Rules for the SmíchOFF Climbing Centre

Operator: New Climbing s.r.o. (hereinafter referred to as the “Operator”)

The climbing centre operated by the Operator (hereinafter referred to as the “Centre”) is intended exclusively for the practice of the sport of free climbing (hereinafter also referred to as “climbing”), for climbing instruction as part of physical education lessons, and for the organisation of competitions. The climbing centre consists of roped climbing walls and bouldering walls (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Climbing Wall” or the “Wall”).

All Visitors to the Centre, as well as customers of Lezecké centrum, s.r.o., and HO SmíchOFF, z.s., are required to familiarise themselves and comply with these Visitor Rules (hereinafter referred to as the “Rules”), including any subsequent amendments thereto – the current version is always available at the reception and at www.lezeckecentrum.cz.

Upon their first visit to the Centre, every Visitor is required to complete electronic registration either at the kiosk at reception or at muj.smichoff.cz,  by providing their first name, last name, date of birth, and email address. Visitors will then purchase an RFID tag (key fob) at reception, which must be presented each time they enter the Centre. In addition, Visitors confirm that they have read these Rules and the guidelines governing conduct at the Climbing Wall, that they accept them, and that they agree to be bound by them. Visitors also confirm their consent to the terms and conditions governing the processing of their personal data. The Operator is authorised to process Visitors’ personal data in accordance with applicable legal regulations. Personal data is processed, among other things, to uniquely identify each Visitor, to ensure safety at the Climbing Wall through compliance with these Rules, and to protect the property of both the Operator and Visitors to the Centre. To the extent necessary to protect the Operator’s legitimate interests as described above, the provision of this personal data is a condition of entry to the Centre. If you do not provide the required personal data, you will not be permitted to enter the Centre.

Definition of Terms

Visitor: A Visitor is any person who, during the Centre’s opening hours, climbs, belays another person, or is otherwise present on the Centre’s premises. This includes customers of New Climbing, s.r.o., Lezecké centrum, s.r.o., and HO SmíchOFF, z.s.

On-Duty Supervisor: An instructor appointed by the Operator to supervise activities at the Centre.

Safety Trainer: An instructor appointed by the Operator to provide an introductory safety briefing.

Lead Climber: A climber who is tied into the lead end of the rope, clips the rope into quickdraws while climbing, and is belayed from below.

Second Climber: A climber who ascends after the Lead Climber on a rope running through the top anchor established by the Lead Climber. While climbing, the Second Climber unclips the rope from each intermediate protection point (quickdraw), leaving the last quickdraw and the top anchor clipped.

Belayer: A person who belays a climber and helps arrest a fall in the event of one.

Rules for Activities at the Climbing Centre

All Visitors acknowledge that they participate in climbing activities at their own risk and responsibility and confirm that they are fully aware of the risks associated with free climbing on climbing walls. All Visitors acknowledge that the Operator permits climbing and belaying only by persons who have been properly instructed and trained in climbing and belaying techniques and who are able to perform these techniques safely, including safely arresting a fall.

Before using the Climbing Wall, every Visitor must assess their current state of health, physical condition, as well as their climbing, belaying, and related technical skills and experience. The Operator strongly recommends that beginners and persons with little or no climbing experience use the Climbing Wall only under the supervision of a qualified instructor appointed by the Operator. The Operator accepts no liability for any injury sustained by a Visitor as a result of overestimating their own abilities or physical condition, or as a result of breaching these Visitor Rules. Any Visitor using the Centre for the first time is required to attend an introductory safety briefing.

The Operator strongly advises persons with health conditions, particularly cardiovascular disease, heart conditions, or pregnancy, not to participate in climbing activities at the Climbing Wall.

Use of the Climbing Wall is permitted only after the applicable admission fee has been paid.

Visitors are strictly prohibited from entering the Centre or participating in climbing activities while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. The Operator reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove from the Centre, any person who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.

Every Visitor aged 12 or over must, upon request by the Operator or an authorised member of staff (reception staff), provide proof of their identity and age by presenting an identity document or other form of photo identification.

Persons under the age of 15 (hereinafter referred to as “Children”) may only enter the Climbing Wall premises and participate in climbing activities under the direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian, or another person aged 18 or over who has accepted responsibility for them and confirmed this to the Operator in writing. The parent, legal guardian, or other responsible person is responsible for ensuring that the Child complies with the rules for safe climbing. They are also responsible for the Child’s safety.

Persons aged 15 or over but under 18 (hereinafter referred to as “Minors”) may participate in sports and climbing activities at the Climbing Wall independently only if they present the Operator with written consent from their parent or legal guardian confirming that they permit the Minor to participate in sports activities at the Climbing Wall independently and accept full responsibility for them. Otherwise, Minors may participate in sports and climbing activities at the Climbing Wall only when accompanied by a person aged 18 or over who has accepted responsibility for them and confirmed this to the Operator in writing. The Operator is entitled to record and verify, for its own purposes, the written consent of parents or legal guardians allowing Minors to participate in climbing activities at the Climbing Wall independently, as well as declarations accepting responsibility for persons under the age of 18.

Visitors are required to store valuables (such as jewellery, cash, credit cards, car and house keys, cameras, mobile phones, and similar items) in the lockers located at reception.

Is this your first time at SmíchOFF?

Any Visitor using the Centre for the first time is required to attend an introductory safety briefing.

All Visitors must comply with the instructions of the Operator’s On-Duty Supervisor at all times. Visitors may rent high-quality, safe, and fully functional climbing equipment from the Centre. Any rented equipment must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and any instructions given by the On-Duty Supervisor. The Operator accepts no responsibility for the technical condition or suitability of a Visitor’s own climbing equipment.

Rules for Safe Climbing at the Climbing Wall

Every Visitor must observe the following basic rules and principles for safe climbing and sports activities at the Climbing Wall:

  • Follow the principles of safe climbing. Before climbing, Visitors must tie into the rope using a knot that complies with UIAA recommendations (a retraced figure-eight knot). Heavier climbers may use a retraced bowline knot. Lead Climbers must not attach themselves to the rope using a carabiner.
  • Always ensure you are properly belayed while climbing. Solo climbing is strictly prohibited.
  • Do not skip any protection points while lead climbing. The rope must be clipped into every quickdraw along the route, no lower than waist height.
  • The use of ropes shorter than 40 metres is prohibited.
  • Climbing barefoot is prohibited. We recommend wearing clean climbing shoes.
  • The Operator strongly advises against using a figure-eight descender for belaying.
  • While climbing, Visitors must not leave their chosen route if doing so could interfere with other climbers on the Climbing Wall. Two or more climbers must not climb the same route at the same time. It is strictly prohibited for two climbers to clip into the same protection point (carabiner or quickdraw) at the same time.
  • The Second Climber must climb on a rope that has been clipped into the intermediate protection points, unclip the rope from each protection point as they ascend, and complete the climb while remaining protected by at least two intermediate or top protection points.
  • The Belayer must devote their full attention to belaying throughout the climber’s ascent and descent (lowering). The Belayer must feed out and take in the rope as required to minimise the length of any potential fall and must arrest any fall in a manner that prevents injury to the Lead Climber, other Visitors, or third parties, and prevents damage to the Climbing Wall, protection points, or other climbing equipment.
  • Belaying from a protection point used as an anchor, practising anchor building, setting up belay stations, abseiling, or engaging in similar activities is prohibited. The climber must always be lowered in a smooth and controlled manner so that other Visitors are not put at risk. The use of personal quickdraws is prohibited, both while lead climbing and when practising clipping on TruBlue autobelays or top-rope routes.
  • The use of a personal tether is prohibited. Visitors must not rest or hang directly from a fixed quickdraw by clipping into it with their harness, belay loop, or any other attachment point.
  • Visitors must not stay beneath the Climbing Wall unless they are climbing or belaying another climber. This rule applies to both the roped climbing halls and the bouldering halls.
  • Visitors must immediately report any technical faults or damage to the Climbing Wall, including loose holds or damaged belay equipment, to the On-Duty Supervisor. They must also warn any other Visitor intending to climb the affected route.
  • Every Visitor must behave in a manner that does not endanger or obstruct other Visitors. In the event of an accident, Visitors must provide first aid to the injured person, where appropriate, and immediately notify the On-Duty Supervisor or call the emergency services if necessary.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the climbing areas.
  • A first-aid kit is available from the On-Duty Supervisor.The On-Duty Supervisor is responsible for recording all accidents in the accident log, including the details of any witnesses.
  • Any Visitor who observes a breach of the rules for safe climbing and sports activities at the Climbing Wall must draw the attention of the person concerned to the breach. If the behaviour continues, the Visitor must immediately report it to the On-Duty Supervisor.
  • Excessively long falls for show are prohibited.
  • Parents and legal guardians are responsible for their Children throughout their visit to the Centre and must keep them under direct supervision at all times. Children must not run around the climbing areas or interfere with climbers or Belayers in any way.
  • Every Visitor is responsible for the condition and safe use of their own climbing equipment (including their harness, rope, belay device, and other equipment).
  • Every Visitor must help keep all areas of the Centre clean and tidy. Visitors must comply with all fire safety regulations and familiarise themselves with the Fire Alarm Instructions displayed throughout the Centre.
  • Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes, vapes, IQOS devices, or any other smoking products, as well as the use or consumption of illegal drugs or other intoxicating substances, are strictly prohibited anywhere on the Centre premises.
  • Using the Centre for purposes other than personal use, e.g. teaching clients, etc., is permitted only on the basis of a Cooperation Agreement concluded with the Operator.   • Entry to the bouldering halls while wearing a climbing harness or carrying an open drink is prohibited. Children may enter the bouldering halls only when under the continuous supervision of an instructor, a parent or legal guardian, or another responsible person aged 18 or over.
  • The areas with blue matting in the new bouldering hall are intended exclusively for Children up to 12 years of age.
  • The use of loose chalk is prohibited in the new bouldering hall and the BouldříkOFF children’s hall.
  • TruBlue autobelay devices may only be used on routes specifically designated and clearly marked for their use.
  • Parents and legal guardians are responsible for their Children at all times, including in the children’s play area. They must comply with the children’s play area rules and keep their Children under constant supervision.
  • If a Visitor sustains an injury, graze, or a torn fingertip while climbing, they must immediately clean, treat, and cover the wound to prevent blood from contaminating the Climbing Wall or mats. If blood has come into contact with the wall or mats, reception staff must be informed immediately.
  • Where the Centre provides specific facilities or equipment (such as a sauna, weight-training equipment, or a training room), Visitors must follow the instructions and operating guidelines displayed for their use.

The Operator or the Operator’s On-Duty Supervisor may require any person who breaches these Rules or the rules for safe climbing at the Climbing Wall to leave the Centre immediately, without any entitlement to a refund of the admission fee. The Operator reserves the right to refuse entry to any person who has repeatedly breached these Rules or the rules for safe climbing at the Climbing Wall.

Visitors acknowledge that the Centre is monitored by CCTV during opening hours for the purposes of enforcing these Rules and the rules for safe free climbing at the Climbing Wall, and protecting the safety of Visitors and other persons. The Operator ensures that CCTV recordings are retained only for the period necessary and permitted by applicable law and are used solely for the purposes for which they were collected. The Operator is committed to protecting Visitors’ personal data.

By signing the registration form, Visitors consent to the Operator processing the personal data they have provided in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), as amended, for the purposes specified by the Operator and for no longer than is necessary to achieve those purposes.

These Rules are issued by the Operator, New Climbing, s.r.o., and are valid and binding on all Visitors to the Climbing Centre, including customers of Lezecké centrum, s.r.o. and HO SmíchOFF, z.s., from the date of their publication. These Rules are published on the Operator’s website and are also available at reception (at the entrance to the Centre, next to the registration kiosks) so that every Visitor has the opportunity to read them.

The Operator reserves the right to amend or update these Rules at any time.
